Yesterday I had the opportunity to moderate the forum '
recruitment in the digital age' organised by AIMIA and sponsored by
LaVolta and
Mitchel Lake, The speakers were the ceo's/MD's of
massmedia,
mark,
3rdsense and
Cnet.
In some ways there were no surprises (e.g. candidate shortages, salary pressures); it felt different though to hear the heads of the organisations express the pain caused by not having the right skills to hire at the right time, at the right price.
There were quite a few other commonalities in the presentations: all of them are resourcing to generating a solid employer value proposition, being very focused on retention, leveraging of international offices, mentoring, etc, to make work interesting.
One of the things that still bother me is the stereotyping of people into generations, which came up in most of the presentations, I do believe the gen y thing has been seriously overplayed and that, instead, a lot of value can be brought to the discussion about the management of talent by focusing on an individual's career stages as opposed as to when they were born
The podcast will be out in a few weeks, I will link to it when available
