Conferences and the one happening in Sydney

I am skeptical of conferences in their usual format. There's too much talking to people, rather than talking with people. And I am unsure as to the value of the networking happening there. If you have been attending the recent Australasian Talent Conference and have differing views, I would like to hear about them.
